Ousted Ba Special Administrator Arun Prasad has denied allegations that he abused his position for personal gains.

Prasad was relieved of his duties effective yesterday.

Attorney General and Acting Local Government Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said in a statement that there are allegations that Prasad obtained waivers and discounts for properties owned by him and his family.

Last week, Sayed-Khaiyum intervened on behalf of Fijians living in the Clopcott squatter settlement in Ba, who were victims of Prasad’s aggressive threats to illegally cut off their water and electricity and were not properly consulted regarding resettlement.

Prasad says a team from the Local Government Ministry verified his applications for waiver and it was later approved by the former Minister Colonel Samuela Saumatua.

Prasad was with the Ba Town Council for the last four years.

Acting Minister Sayed-Khaiyum says the interests of the people of Ba town will be better served with Pravin Bala taking over as Special Administrator.
