All Rural Electrification Programmes will now be in line with the Rural Electrification Policy 2016.
Local Government minister Praveen Kumar says the ministry will in a fortnight put out a public notice on all pending works.
These include the grid extension and the solar home systems.
“We need to have a clear-cut understanding between the consumer and the ministry and to provide them with a right time frame. The 2016 plans for our rural electrification program will see the implementation of the major grid extension projects at a total value of around $14.7m.”
Kumar says other rural electrification projects that will commence this year include 27 smaller grid extension projects and house wiring worth $15m.
500 new solar home systems will be installed at $3.9m while existing systems in some areas will be upgraded as well.
