Rise in suicide cases worry Police

The Fiji Police Force is urging people to share their problems and not take drastic measures upon themselves.

The plea comes following an increase in attempted suicide cases as a result of disputes.

Over the last three days the Force has been receiving a number of attempted suicide cases involving those as young as 15 years of age.

A 15 year old girl of Ra attempted to take her life over a relationship problem with her boyfriend.

In Nukuloa, Ba, a 29year old laborer also attempted to kill himself after he informed his wife that he was unhappy with his life.

Three attempted suicide cases were recorded on Saturday….. a 16year old student of Labasa ….after she was counseled by her brother due to her attitude.

A 19year old in Ba attempted to take her life after his girl friend broke their relationship…and a 20year old after hearing rumors that her husband was with someone else.

Police says these cases could easily have been dealt with through dialogue and is something we all need to address.
