Removing sanctions on Fiji long way off: Carr

Australian Foreign Affairs minister, Bob Carr says removing sanctions on Fiji will not happen in the near future.

Carr will be arriving into the country today for the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group meeting.

The CMAG group includes the Prime Minister of Tuvalu, Willy Telavi, Papua New Guinea’s Foreign Minister, Ano Pala, and the Prime Minister of Vanuatu, Alfred Carlot.

Carr told ABC News that talks of removing sanctions was premature.

The Australian federal opposition has urged Senator Carr to re-establish relations with Prime Minister Bainimarama.
