Reddy meets special rep of CCOA

Agriculture Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy, yesterday met the Special Representative of the Commonwealth Clean Oceans Alliance.

Discussions focused on the importance of addressing the causes and consequences of marine pollution, particularly in small island states.

Reddy says some of the measures undertaken by the Ministry of Waterways and Environment, includes sea wall protection and natural based solutions like the usage and planting of vetiver grass and rehabilitation and replanting of mangroves.

He also spoke about the Clean Environment Policy, which will contribute to the government’s long-term ambition to make Fiji cleaner, through self-compliance and enforcement of the Litter Act 2008.

A proposal will be submitted to Special Representative, Stephen Harris on how the organization can assist the Government in ensuring a cleaner and safer oceans.
