Ratu Jone Mataove Qomate is now the new Tui Labasa following a traditional installation ceremony held at the chiefly village of Naseakula.
Close to two hundred people gathered at the Village green to witness the ceremony this morning.
In installing Ratu Jone, Tui Macuata Ratu Wiliame Katonivere reminded him of his role and responsibility to the people, the vanua and the government.
He says the vanua cannot operate well without the people and the government.
Speaking to FBC News after his installation, Ratu Jone says he will work towards unifying all communities and institutions within and outside of Labasa.
He adds, he will later meet with the Vanua to discuss and lay down plans.
Ratu Jone is the son of Ratu Joeli Qomate who held the title from 1997 to 2004.
He succeeds Adi Salanieta Tuilomaloma Qomate Ritova who passed away in November 2016.
