Ratu Inoke meet Swedish Prime Minister

Foreign Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola has attended a combined bilateral meeting with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfvenand other Heads of Delegations from the Pacific.

The meeting was along the margins of the 21st Conference of Parties or COP21 in Paris France.

The bilateral was organized to acknowledge that climate change is taking a hard toll on the Pacific Island States, posing an existential threat to its peoples’ survival.

The Swedish Government has offered its assistance in tackling climate change and building resilience against its negative impacts.

Löfven says Sweden has taken a leading role in climate finance to secure funding for necessary mitigation and adaption measure.

Ratu Inoke acknowledged Sweden being sympathetic and responsive to the Pacific’s urgent situation and needs.

He adds that unless the international community commits to drastic emission cuts, low-lying Pacific Islands risk losing everything.
