Acting President of SODELPA Anare Jale has clarified why Opposition leader Sitiveni Rabuka have remained as party leader until 2020.

Rabuka was again appointed by the management board to continue his leadership until the second General assembly next year.

The SODELPA Constitution states that if a party leader does not win the election for the party, the person in the position must resign immediately.

However Jale says Rabuka can continue as the constitution also allows him to do so.

“The constitution of the party also spells out that the position of party leader will have to be filled at the second annual general meeting or the second general assembly after the general election so the first will be this year, the second will be next year 2020”

Jale says there are people within the party who want Rabuka to continue his leadership for the next election.
