Public Service Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum hopes to have a plan for the public sector reform within a month.
Sayed-Khaiyum confirms the process will be holistic – scrutinizing the civil service from the policy and bureaucracy level, right down to individual staff working on the front line.
“A number of aspects to that reform. They can range from the size of respective ministries and departments, the manner in which they conduct their business, the career paths that need to be developed…whether there’s adequate renumeration.”
The Pubic Service Minister also confirms the review will be carried out independent of the Public Service Commission.
Talks are underway with development partners to possibly find technical experts who’ve done this work in other parts of the world.
Funding the PSC Review and Reform is also being discussed with international bodies.
Sayed-Khaiyum is confident the new look public service will be up and running in a year’s time.
