Poverty levels in Fiji can be reduced if people set their priorities right.
That’s the view of the Pacific Community Network who believe people should play their role effectively in managing their expenses.
Fr Kevin Bar from the People’s Community Network says there is more emphasis on spending nowadays.
“There is a lot more emphasis from people on contributing money to the Vanua. The other thing is that many are buying mobile phones and other items that add to their neccessary expenses.”
Meanwhile, the Social Welfare Ministry has plans to alleviate poverty in our country.
Out of the 35 per cent of people living in poverty, only three to four percent are receiving family assistance.
