A positive environment needs to be created to end all forms of stigma and discrimination against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex members.
The Rainbow Pride Foundation Executive Director Isikeli Vulavou says that for LGBTQI members, the opportunities of getting a job are minimal and they hardly get promotions at the workplace.
“Some of the complaints that we have received from the members of our community who hold white collar and blue collar jobs in Fiji is that they are often denied promotion within the workplaces because of their sexuality.”
Vulavou says family members need to accept their children as they are.
Meanwhile, discrimination at work also lowers the self-esteem of the LGBTQI’s which makes them less productive.
