Independent provisional candidates and political party candidates have until next Monday midday to submit their nominations with the Fijian Elections Office.

Supervisor of Elecions Mohammed Saneem says the electoral act contains very strict requirements regarding the submission of nominations forms before the deadline, therefore, no nomination forms will be accepted after the nomination period has ended.

Saneem says nomination forms should be accompanied by a deposit of $1,000 for each party provisional candidate and independent provisional candidate.

He adds independent provisional candidates will also need to present a list of 1,000 supporters along with their nomination forms.

Nominations will not be accepted unless accompanied by the deposit.

However, if a candidate wishes to withdraw his or her nomination form, he or she can provide a written notice to the SOE no later than next Tuesday midday.
