Police will increase their visibility in rural areas this festive season following reports of an increase in drunk driving in these areas.

Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra says this is a new trend that they intend to put a stop to.

“Some of the drink and drive is taking place in the rural areas like out of the cities and towns. We are also planning to do a breathalyzer check and test in the rural roads because we have seen and witnessed some of the accidents occurring out of towns where we can say people are taking chances of drinking and driving in rural areas.”

Eleven drivers were arrested over the weekend for drunk driving.
