Police challenged by vehicle shortage

July 3, 2015 8:38 pm

The Fiji Police Force is trying to acquire more vehicles to boost patrolling by its officers.

Police Commissioner Major-General, Ben Groenewald says they have submitted their request to the Finance Ministry and hope to get new vehicles in the next financial year.

“At this stage I have 42% mobility of my vehicle fleet. If I have 100 vehicles then I will only have 42 that are mobile in the whole of Fiji. I do not have the patrol cars that we had previously.”

Groenewald says a lack of resources should not be a reason for poor delivery of services.

He made the comments at a talanoa session with the public in Suva.
