People hesitant to join Boards due to sanctions

Talented people in Fiji are hesitant to accept appointment made by government due to travel sanctions says Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

He made the comment at a press conference this morning after questions were posed as to how important it is for Fiji that travel sanctions are removed.

“There are some people who are willing to contribute, there are some people who have always been marginalised because weren’t part of the boy’s clique so they never got to sit on Board’s etc and those people are hesitant to sit on Boards and they are professionals. They are commercially mannered people, particular acumen or skill sets that we need to have in terms of for example – having institutions or organisation that are not corrupt that are run efficiently and those people are stopped.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says travel sanctions are affecting those that have nothing to do with politics.
