The Immigration Department is currently working on the transition of the current passport book to E-Passports.

A new feature is to have a chip in the official document.

Director Immigration Nemani Vuniwaqa says this is to ensure that the security feature is more effective and it will be difficult to copy any Fijian passport.

Vuniwaqa has confirmed the tender for this work will soon be awarded.

”We just went through a tender and a number of companies have shown their interest which is just a matter of finalizing and awarding the tender to the respective company .That is enhancing our image and security of our boarders”.

There is hope the project will be implemented next year.
