Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has stated that Opposition Leader Sitiveni Rabuka came with a hidden agenda by trying to reconcile him with NFP President Pio Tikoduadua.

Bainimarama says the Speaker has already made efforts for reconciliation, in which he had already offered his apology but Tikoduadua refused to meet with them on the day after the altercation.

In response to questions asked by FBC News after appearing to the Privileges Committee today, Bainimarama says he knew that Rabuka had an agenda when meeting with him.

“But I knew what he’s hidden agenda was, he wants to be seen as a statesman but I don’t think the other three knew what his agenda was”

Bainimarama says Rabuka approached him for a meeting along with Ratu Suliano Matanitobua and Ro Temumu Kepa.

The Prime Minister says there is no need for Rabuka to push for the idea of reconciliation.

“Rabuka had said that Qo nai lakolako vakavanua, but I could not figure out what they wanted, so we sat down and had a meeting and all he wanted was for me to say yes to the reconciliation, and I told him that there was no need for him to come and say that because that was done by the Speaker and we can do that again”

Rabuka confirmed yesterday as the former head of the Fiji Military Forces, he had attempted reconciliation between Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and National Federation Party MP Pio Tikoduadua.

The three are all former military personnel, with Rabuka and Bainimarama having served as Commanders.

In a press conference, Rabuka says that he had asked the Prime Minister to receive Tikoduadua and vice versa.

Rabuka says the two had given him their view and he says that he felt they should present their views to the Privileges Committee.
