Applicants for disability housing assistance must be registered

Fijians living with any form of disability must be registered with the Disability Unit of the Department of Social Welfare before applying for the housing assistance scheme.

This was confirmed in Parliament by Minister for Housing and Community Development Premila Kumar.

The government recently introduced the housing assistance scheme that will benefit Fijians who are living with any form of disability.

Kumar says applications can also be made at the Habitat for Humanity which acts as Secretariat of the scheme.

A team will visit the homes of applicants to conduct thorough assessments before making the final decision.

13.7% of Fijians aged three and above are reported to be living with some form of disability.
