Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has clarified that amendments to the iTaukei Land Trust Act are simply an administrative amendment.

The amendment is to alter TLTB’s current General Manager position to a Chief Executive Officer.

Sayed-Khaiyum says it does not in any way affect the rights of any landowner.

The Opposition members opposed the changes to which the Attorney General responded saying they have taken this out of context.

“They have turned this and brought all sorts of issues into this religion, ILO, ethnicity whatever the case is, it’s simply an administrative amendment and it will not affect the right of any landowner”.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the government will also ensure that corrupt dealings that transpired in the past will not repeat itself again.

“Previously the TLTB leased out Itaukei land for a peppercorn rent, previously TLTB leased out land to hotelier’s at minimal rates or will build this for you for ten thousand dollars and TLTB would accept that.”

The Attorney General has also highlighted his frustration against the Opposite side of the House that their response to the amendment was irrelevant.
