Parliament resumes for budget debate today

Parliament sitting will resume at 9am today with Members of Parliament to respond to the 2018/2019 national budget that was announced on June 28th.

Shadow Minister for Economy Aseri Radrodro is expected to be the first to respond and it will be wrapped up by Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum giving his right of reply.

The next financial year’s budget stands at $4.6 billion dollars – an increase of three hundred million dollars from last year’s budget.

The anticipated budget has been labelled a special budget as it is built for Fijian families.

The total estimated revenue is over $4.2billion.

As such, the net deficit is estimated at $414m dollars or 4.5% of GDP.

The parliament will debate on the national budget which will be put to vote.
