One of the main reasons why government introduced the family care leave is to allow parents to spend quality time with their children.
Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says good family bonding will allow children to talk openly to their parents on issues faced by them.
“I know of many incidences where parents completely ignore their children and some parents are away at night drinking grog or doing whatever they do, they don’t spend enough time and that’s one of the reasons’ why we’ve actually give paternity leave. How many fathers have actually changed the diapers of their babies? How many have actually done that? So child rearing is not something you just a flick a finger and it happens you need to be able to connect with your children.”
