December 1, 2016 5:38 pm

244 primary school teachers from all over Vanua Levu last night received their certificate award for completing the Occupational Health and Safety and Elementary First Aid Training.

As part of it’s efforts to make all schools around the country safe and free from incidents, the Ministry of Education is training all teachers on OHS and Elementary First Aid.

Last night, primary school teachers from all over Vanua Levu received their certificate awards for completing the 4 day training.

Education Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy applauded the teachers for utilising their end of the year break to undertake the training, adding the Ministry’s priority is the safety of children in school.

National Trainer for OHS and First Aid – Veer Chand says OHS is not negotiable and teachers play a fundamental role in safety and health in the teaching and learning environment.

So far, about 2,000 teachers in 600 schools have been covered under this training.

Next year, the Ministry of Education plans to train another 2,000 teachers in 42 training centres around the country.
