Oceania Basketball Championships kicks off today

The Fiji Under 18 basketball team for both male and female is ready to give their best shot in the Oceania Basketball Championships which kicks off today at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

The week-long tournament will have Fiji, Australia, Guam, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Tahiti compete for first place in both the men and women’s category for the U18 division.

Fiji Basketball Chief Operating Officer Laisiasa Pumau says the expectation is quite big because they will try and defend their home soil.

“Obviously we have our Australia and New Zealand who always dominating in the Oceania region and that is something we have in our long term plan to change. We have been preparing well and are ready for the championship”.

The winners in each category will qualify for the U19 World Championship next year.
