Nobody is being terminated: WAF

April 30, 2019 7:37 am

The Water Authority is urging union leaders to put the needs of ordinary Fijians before their personal agendas.

WAF Board Chair, Bhavesh Kumar says the National Union of Workers are making deliberate attempts to mislead Fijians by giving them incorrect information and are causing fear and confusion.

Kumar says unions have started touting the lie that 600 WAF workers have been terminated, which is completely untrue.

He adds that most of them have successfully passed their performance assessments and their human resources team is in the process of renewing their contracts.

Kumar says that the unions have recently claimed that 2900 jobs were going to be mass terminated.

The Authority says nobody is being terminated and they hire workers for particular projects regularly.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Trades Union Congress General Secretary, Felix Anthony says they don’t have a personal agenda and WAF has no respect for the collective agreement in place with NUW – which was signed in 2018.

Anthony claims there’s a number of issues with the termination and families of those who will be laid off are going to be affected.
