A 24 year old man who assaulted a police officer has been sentenced to nine months behind bars.

Iliesa Vasuira pleaded guilty to assaulting Police Constable Mesake Cataki in the due execution of his duty and damaging his uniform valued at $45.

The offence happened on the 4th of March, this year outside Rodwell road in Suva.
Vasuira admitted that he was heavily intoxicated, he asked for forgiveness saying he couldn’t recall his actions.

He appeared in the Suva Magistrates Tevita Boseiwaqa who highlighted that the offence requires an immediate term of imprisonment for assault against police officers who are doing their duties as required by law.
