The National Fire Authority is yet to establish the cause of the fire that destroyed MH Supermarket in Nabua last night.

FBC News understands that a call was made to the NFA emergency line 910 at around 5pm yesterday and five fire trucks from Nausori and Valelevu responded, as well as an ambulance and two rapid response vehicles.

More than 30 fire-fighters and emergency response personnel were at the scene to fight the blaze which continued until after 8pm.

Chief Fire officer Qionilau Moceitai says firefighters managed to stop the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings and the nearby Total service station.

“The important thing is the time of our response. At the moment for this fire when we arrived the fire was well involved. If we were called earlier then we could have protected the building or do something better than what we have at the moment.”

Eyewitnesses told FBC News, the fire might have started from the kitchen area of MH.

NFA CEO John O’Connor says investigation might take two or three days due to the scale of the fire.
