NFA concerned with increasing home fires

The National Fire Authority is concerned with the increasing number of house fire incidents since Christmas Eve.

Two houses were destroyed by fire in the last twenty-four hours.

This has increased the number of house fire incidents since Christmas Eve to six.

Early this morning, firefighters attended to a fire incident at Malawai Settlement in Votualevu, Nadi where a three bedroom wooden house was destroyed by fire.

The fire was caused by a lit candle which was left unattended in the kitchen area.

Last night at Caubati Settlement, a four bedroom house was destroyed by fire.

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the incident.

On Christmas Day, NFA attended two house fire incidents at Naviyago Settlement in Lautoka – caused by a kerosene stove.

At Bau Road in Nausori on Christmas Day, a three bedroom house was destroyed by fire and at Namara Settlement in Labasa on Boxing Day, a three bedroom house was completely destroyed by fire.

NFA CEO John O’Connor is again reminding members of the community to take extra care.
