New streetlights contractor to be announced soon

The Fiji Roads Authority will announce the new contractor responsible for installing streetlights, next month.

The current contractor an overseas based company – Prime Fiji is currently under investigation for alleged forgery.

The company allegedly submitted Falsified Performance Security Bond of Westpac Bank to FRA while negotiating a street light renewal agreement.

Chief executive John Hutchinson says they have received a lot of applications from interested companies.

“The tenders close on the 4th of August and we have to go through an evaluation process and the preferred tender will be announced and the contract has to be entered in and signed. It’s quiet an extensive process and that extensive process has to be robust and has to be transparent.”

There are more than eight thousand streetlights around the country, of which most are in need of repairs.
