New biomass plant to help reduce import bill

Fiji can save up to $1 billion a year on the import of fuel.

This is if Fiji is 100 per cent dependable on renewable energy.

Nabou Green Energy took the first step today to supply renewable energy.

GIMCO Chairman Sang Sun Lee says opening of the $100 million biomass plant created hundreds of employment for local people.

Lee says with the success of these local plants Fiji import less diesel for supplying electricity.

He adds the hundreds of millions in foreign exchange saved from such projects can be used for construction of roads, hospitals and schools for the Fijian people.

The Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum launched the plant last night.
