Navua robbery suspects appear in Court

Two men who allegedly robbed a family in Navua of more than $62,000 last year pleaded not guilty while another accused has pleaded guilty to the charges.

Nacanieli Bakata, Josaia Dobui and Ilaitia Vuivuda appeared before High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo this morning.

Bakata, Dobui and Vuivuda are each charged with one count of aggravated robbery and one count of theft.

It is alleged the three committed the offence in September last year,

The three allegedly robbed assorted items worth $62,530.

The trial will begin on June 11th.

Bakata and Vuivuda informed the court they will represent themselves until they get a lawyer.

Justice Temo has warned the duo to arrange for a counsel by June 11th.

The prosecution informed the court that Bakata is in remand at the Lautoka Corrections Center as he has a pending matter in the Nadi Magistrate and the Lautoka High Court.

Justice Temo has asked the prosecution to make application to amalgamate the files and to bring the matter before him as it is possible that Bakata will be declared a habitual offender.

Justice Temo has stayed the proceedings against Bakata in the Nadi Magistrates Court.

Prosecution will inform the High Court next month on the status of the amalgamation of the files in relation to Bakata.

The matter has been adjourned to June 1st

Meanwhile Dobui will be produced in court next Wednesday for sentencing submission.
