The Nausori Town Council will now look after its satellite towns near Nausori.

Chief Executive Akhtar Ali says this comes after the Local Government Ministry dissolved the Rural Local Authorities which usually handles these satellite towns and its operations.

Satellite towns are shopping centers that haven’t been declared a town.

Ali says RLC’s responsibilities such as development control, the application of building permits, and its approval will now be referred to the municipal councils.

“So for Nausori, we will be looking after the areas like Korovou, the satellite town, areas that was looked after by the rural local authorities like Vunidawa, Naitaisiri. We will be able to manage all that provided there is enough resources.”

Ali says while this is extra work for the Council, they will manage these challenges in ensuring they provide the best services to their customers.

He adds this transition will also mean efficient services for those living in these areas.
