Natural Disaster

Public warned to stay away from flooded areas

January 21, 2019 12:01 pm
Flooding at River Road, Narere.

In light of the current weather situation the public are being warned to stay away from flooded areas.

Director Operations SSP Abdul Khan says people must at all times adhere to weather advisories as well.

Police officers were deployed to areas that experienced flash flooding yesterday and are also on standby to be deployed when the need arises.

Parents and guardians are urged to closely monitor their children’s movements.

SSP Khan says the recent drowning is an unfortunate reminder that people need to be mindful of their environment and the threat it can have on their safety.

A fifty-year-old farmer from Korobebe Village in Sabeto drowned last Thursday.

It is believed while crossing the river with six other people in the Nausori Highland the deceased got swept away by the strong current.

His body was later found at Navadrakula along Nadi River.
