Nadi will become Fiji’s third city in 2017.

Local Government Minister, Parveen Kumar announced the decision at the consultative forum for municipal councils in Nadi.

Kumar said the Nadi Town Council was tasked to carry out necessary work for the town to be declared a city.

He says he has been informed that most of the work has been completed.

Nadi is the gateway to the tourism sector with Nadi International Airport.

It is also home to Denarau Island which has several up market hotels and tourist attractions.
