People living in Nadi have already started preparing for the planned water shutdown which begins this weekend.
Votualevu resident Irene Singh says that with only a few days remaining, they are ready for the 4 day water shutdown.
“I had a few drums which I kept it and I have cleaned it up and started filling it up. Also all the bottles we used for drinking water we bought I’m using that for storage also and I’ve filled up the buckets too.”
According to WAF, the water shutdown is expected to affect around 160,000 residents in Nadi and Lautoka from this Saturday till next Tuesday.
WAF Chief Operating Office Saman Ekanayake says people should not be caught off guard as they have been making announcements for a while now.
“They should store water as we have been announcing it for one month before and it’s a matter of storing 200 litres of water that will be enough for cooking and drinking during that period.”
Water tanks will also be placed in strategic locations around Nadi and Lautoka as a backup reserve and the Authority will be deploying trucks to refill the tanks.
