Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has revealed that renovation works at the Nadi International Airport was carried out at a cost of approximately 130 million dollars.

Sayed-Khaiyum made this statement while replying to the comments made by SODELPA Leader Sitiveni Rabuka in which he claims that the Chinese will one day take over our Ports and Airport.

Sayed-Khaiyum says money for the airport renovation was borrowed from Westpac Bank with no government guarantee.

“You see again by him saying that they are going to take over our Ports and Airports he is completely telling a lie, how can they take over the ports and airports, there is no factual evidence to prove that.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says there is no debts as far as our ports and airports are concerned as any upgrades to these are not funded by the Chinese.
