Muslims around the country are today celebrating Qurbani, which is a sacrifice of a livestock animal.

Mukhtar Khan from Nadawa was part of slaughtering a cow this morning at Waidrua in Baulevu, Nausori.

Khan says that their day started with a prayer at the Mosque before heading to Waidrua to slaughter animals.

He says that this is a vital part as they seek God’s pleasure and reward.

Khan adds that cows can only be divided into seven equal shares while the sheep or goat cannot be divided at all.

He mentions that once a person gets their share of meat, they usually share it with their neighbors and give it to other Muslims as well who were not able to buy an animal.

The Qurbani will go for another two days and is an annual event for all Muslims.
