More than thirty productions have been filmed so far in the country this year.

This was highlighted by Film Fiji Chief Executive, Dallas Foon who says this has contributed tremendously to the development of job opportunities for many locals.

He says when international productions choose Fiji as a setting, local movie crews get a chance to learn from professionals.

“In particular we know of one case whereby a person who was a technician in a crew is also going to be taken to New Zealand to be further employed by a major Hollywood production and hopefully he comes back and spreads his knowledge to the rest of the crew. So for us the development has been fantastic and the training and the experience our locals have got is wonderful for the economy and the industry as a whole.”

Foon was speaking at the premiere of the American romantic drama film Adrift in Suva last night.

Adrift which has been entirely shot in Fiji and is one of the biggest feature films to be shot in the country.
