Education Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy says the ministry has to recruit 250 teachers for primary schools and 100 for secondary schools for next year.

However, Dr Reddy says there will be more spaces available as some teachers will be leaving the education system.

“But that’s not all – there will be a few more as there are quite a number of exits out of retirement or deemed to resign or terminations – so there will be more slots out there.”

Dr Reddy emphasized that student teacher ratio is not that much of an issue in our schools currently.

He says the student teacher ratio for primary school at the moment is 24 is to 1 and for secondary schools it is 13.5 is to 1.
