More rain and strong wind forecast

The wet weather is expected to continue into next week with two troughs of low pressure affecting the Fiji Group.

Director for the Meteorological Services – Ravind Kumar says while there is one trough affecting Fiji from the South, another is coming in from the North and the two are expected to partner and bring more rains and strong winds in the coming days.

“The trough of low pressure lies to the South West of Fiji and a Heavy Rain Warning remains in force for the interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Vanualevu, Tavueni, Lau and Lomaiviti Groups. With this there is a strong wind warning also in force for land areas of South West Viti Levu, Yasawa and Mamanuca Group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti Group.”

Kumar notes that there is also a strong wind warning for all Fiji waters including Rotuma.

The Director notes that while for the Tropical Cyclone Liua continues to affect Solomon Islands, it is moving westwards and poses no direct threat to Fiji.
