Ministry focuses budget on Social Protection programs

More than eighty percent of the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation’s 2017/2018 National Budget is focused on the Social Protection programs.

Minister, Mereiseini Vuniwaqa told parliament this afternoon that thousands of Fijians benefit from this initiative.

“The social protection program of $92.05m compromises of 85% of our total budget and it brings us comfort to know that the increase in social protection programs will benefit twenty-five thousand families already on the poverty benefit scheme. Over 4000 households on care and protection programs and almost 26,000 thousand senior citizens on social pension scheme and over 2000 expectant mothers under the extended voucher food program.”

The Ministry received a sum of a hundred and thirteen point four million dollars in 2017/2018 National Budget.
