Minister calls for parental engagement

Education Minister Dr. Mahendra Reddy says parents need to have an accommodating approach while handling their children.

Dr Reddy says this will enable the children to freely confide in them.

His call comes after a form five student, jumped off a school building following a counseling session in front of her father.

Dr Reddy says one of the major areas that need strengthening is increased parental engagement with children because some parents tend to threaten students or become violent or abusive over simple mistakes.

Dr Reddy says in this day and age students face numerous challenges which never existed before and we cannot adopt a confrontational and aggressive approach.

He also urged parents to spend quality time with their children at all times.
