The National Immunization program for the Meningococcal Disease will target teenagers.

This was revealed by the National Advisor for Communicable Disease, Dr Alisha Sahukhan as the Health Ministry maps out its plans for the immunization campaign.

Dr. Sahukhan says teenagers are targeted due to the high risk they pose through the spreading of this disease.

“Teenagers are the most prolific or the most likely carriers of the bacteria so they may not be sick but they are carrying it at the back of their nose or their mouth more than any other age group what this means is that they spread the disease more than any other age group.”

Individuals who fall in the targeted age group are advised to visit their nearest health facility to be vaccinated.
