The Fiji Times Deputy editor in chief Elenoa Baselala
Around twenty media representatives gathered today at Albert Park Suva for a Zumba session to mark the World Press Freedom Day.
The Fiji Times Deputy editor in chief Elenoa Baselala says this day is an opportunity to celebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom.
Baselala says this day also pays tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
“On media freedom day that is going to be celebrated across the world today will remember the work of journalists who have died covering stories, basically telling stories about things and humans. For Fiji media freedom is important for us as a democracy.”
The theme for this year’s World Press Freedom Day is “Media for Democracy: Journalism and Elections in Times of Disinformation.”
