A driver in his 40s who allegedly caused the death of a man in an accident on Sunday along Lodoni Road, Tailevu will be produced at the Nausori Magistrates Court today.

It’s alleged the accused hit the 23-year-old victim at around 4am and failed to stop or report the matter to Police.

A call was received at the Korovou Police Station after the victim from Burerua village was found lying motionless on the side of the road a few hours later.

Information provided by a member of the public who noticed the damage on the accused’s vehicle led to his arrest.

The accused has been charged with one count of dangerous driving occasioning death, one count of failure to comply with requirements after an accident and one count of driving a motor vehicle without a valid license.

The road death toll currently stands at 13 compared to 9 for the same period last year.
