A man in his twenties convicted of one count of robbery has been sentenced to eighteen months imprisonment by the Suva High Court.

The Court heard in March Jone Delai robbed a Mohammed Nafiz of a mobile phone valued at more than $300 in Nasinu.

The victim was talking to his dad on the phone while walking on the street when Delai forcefully grabbed the device and ran away.

The Judge noted that Delai is a first offender and admitted in the caution interview that he was drunk at the time of the incident.

It was also highlighted that he is remorseful for the crime committed.

The Judge while sentencing Delai says the court has a responsibility to protecting the public from such behaviours.
