A fourty-two-year-old man has been sentenced to twelve-years-ten-months and two weeks after being convicted of rape and indecent assault.

The Lautoka High Court heard the incident happened in August 2010.

The Court heard the complainant who was seven-years-old at that time was at home with her one-year-old brother.

At around 8.30am when the complainant was carrying her brother, the man who was the next door neighbour came into the house, got hold of the victim’s brother and put him on the floor.

He then carried the victim to the sofa and indecently assaulted and raped her.

The girl told her mother about the incident the next morning and the matter was reported to police.

He has a non-parole sentence of ten years.
