A 25-year-old man was convicted by the Suva High Court yesterday with one count each of being found in possession of illicit drugs and unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs.

Atekini Matakorovatu was arrested and produced in court following a raid during Operation Cavuraka in Kadavu.

A team of twelve officers who carried out the raid found Matakorovatu uprooting plants with another person, 19-year-old Arisi Kaitani who is also facing drug related offence charges.

They were found in possession of 1184.4 grams of marijuana and had cultivated 7957.7 grams of marijuana also known as cannabis sativa.

Matakorovatu will be sentenced on August 23rd.

Meanwhile Kaitani’s trial will be held from 25th June to 6th July next year.
