There’s a need for farming in Fiji to be made more attractive to encourage younger people to consider making a profession of it.

Agriculture Minister Inia Seruiratu says this is one of the major challenges his Ministry faces.

The Minister says plans are in place to launch various initiatives on Youths and Women in agriculture as well.

“That is why we have that modernization plan that we have because for Fiji right now labour is becoming an issue and for us to continue to produce even to higher levels we need to bring in machinery, we need mechanization, we need to modernise Fiji’s Agriculture Sector.”

$74.4 million has been allocated for Agriculture in the 2016-2017 National Budget.
