Major bridge replacements planned for the West

Major bridges will be replaced during the Lautoka to Nadi four-lane road project.

Fiji Roads Authority Chief Executive Jonathan Moore says this will be done before the road work begins.

Moore says the project will be carried out in stages as it would be chaotic to do everything at once.

“So as you build a new bridge, you want to replace the old bridge. You have to put in the new bridge first like we doing in Tamavua. So the initial work on the Nadi-Lautoka four-lane project will be the replacement of some of the bridges along the route.

Moore says the road once complete will solve the traffic congestion issues between Lautoka and Nadi.

Preparatory work on the project has started and the four lanes are expected to open in 2023.
