October 16, 2012 7:02 pm

Thirty five people have had their driver’s licenses suspended over a range of traffic infringements in Labasa including one person who has clocked up 124 offences.

The Land Transport Authority says the offenders have a bad track record for habitually breaking traffic laws with some offenders averaging 60 traffic violations.

Careless driving tops the list of offences followed by a failure to obey road markings, speeding and driving unregistered vehicles.

Other offences include the improper operation of taxis, failure to use a taxi
meter and dangerous driving.

A Show Cause hearing, presided over by the LTA chief executive, Naisa
Tuinaceva, summons drivers with inordinate numbers of traffic violations, red flagged through the authority’s digital monitoring system, to justify why their license shouldn’t be seized.
